Loose Skin: Not the Bane of my Existence

People ask me all the time how I managed to lose all that weight and not have loose skin. Well, I DO have loose skin, quite a bit actually. It’s on my thighs, where I carried most of my excess weight. It’s annoying, I won’t lie. I’d love to have nice slender shapely legs, but now that I’ve almost run out of body fat to lose it’s pretty evident that short of major surgery, I’ll likely have this ‘sheath’ of honor for life. Oh well. It is what it is. I still think I’m pretty awesome in general.

Hopefully this helps someone feel less frustrated with their own body. You’re not alone! And it’s not the end of the world. :)

Edited to add: for those just starting out on a weight loss journey, don’t let this be an excuse not to keep going. I would take excess skin over the health problems my excess fat caused ANY day.

  1. Thank you this has helped me accept my body for what it is, with all the mag covers of “perfect” photo shopped bodies they need to start representing more then just one ideal of beauty,

  2. Thank you for sharing. Your a beatiful and amazing person. Thank you for putting urself out there so others of us can look at ourselves differently

  3. I so appreciate your honesty – very refreshing. Here’s to REAL women with REAL skin – yes, I’m one of ‘em.

  4. Thank you so much for sharing that. I have been struggling with it myself, I was about at the point of considering surgery. I lost 99 lbs over a three year period and the skin under my butt drives me crazy. I see all these photos of people who have lost weight and got in shape and they look great, I really thought I was an odd case and I have been working my butt off, literally, to try and tighten it up. Now I know it is pretty normal and I am not alone! :)

  5. Thank You SO SO Much for sharing… I’m scared to continue on my weightloss journey as I am developing hanging skin on my stomach & my butt and the back of my thighs after losing 42 pounds! It makes me very sad & makes me want to give up. However, I will not. THANK YOU! You are absolutely gorgeous & I LOVE LOVE your realness & Your light hair… as I have totally stopped coloring my hair and gone gray (at 43). I want to be absolutely natural, healthy and fit! 8D
