Products I Recommend

I’ve sifted through the hype and identified a few products that really are worth investing some money in. The products and services here are all things that have enriched my own life and those of my clients.

Moving the Body

Ultimate Sandbag has created a versatile training tool that has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of equipment. It’s adaptable to any fitness level and comes with fantastic support from the Ultimate Sandbag team – instructional videos, emails and a great facebook page to keep you updated on sales and events.

TRX Suspension and Rip Trainers are another versatile tool that allows users of all ability levels to utilize the weight of their own body to build strength and stability. One portable tool provides a full body workout, anywhere you can find a doorway or stable anchor. I really enjoy training with my TRX and use it with many of my clients, especially those with physical limitations (though it is certainly useful for even experienced athletes!).

Fitbit Activity and Sleep Trackers monitor your activity levels throughout the day so you can make sure to eat enough. They also track your sleep duration and quality. My clients find this information really helpful for getting a solid understanding of their true calorie needs (which are usually much higher than they thought!).

Eating the Food

Smart Kitchen is a really cool online cooking school. More than just a video library or recipe database, Smart Kitchen actually starts with the fundamentals, things like knife skills and choosing ingredients. You’ll learn to be an improvisational cook – able to create your own recipes using ingredients at hand. Cooking skills are one of the foundations of a healthy lifestyle, and I’m really excited about what Smart Kitchen has created. For a monthly or yearly subscription, you can learn at our own pace, and pick and choose which lessons you want to take. There are lessons for absolute beginners to advanced cooks, created and taught by accomplished professional chefs.

eMeals is a meal planning service that offers a week’s worth of meal plans, including shopping lists. These are simple, user friendly meals that are well suited to busy parents and people who just want some variety. There are several different meal plans, I recommend the Mediterranean, Natural and Organic and Simple Gourmet plans specifically.

Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein is the protein supplement I use and recommend. I love the ingredient quality (all organic) and that it contains probiotics for digestion. The flavored varieties are sweetened with stevia (the unflavored is unsweetened). I’ve used this for five years to boost my protein intake and I’ve been really happy with the results. I add it to my oatmeal in the morning and to smoothies.

RiseBar Almond Honey Protein Bar is my go-to protein bar. It contains 20 grams of protein and only 3 ingredients – almonds, honey and whey protein. It’s really tasty too.

Books

Well, mine of course…and…

Drop Dead Healthy: One Man’s Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection if you only read one health book, it should be this one! He covers pretty much everything.

Any of Matt Stone’s books. While I don’t agree with every single thing Matt says, his writing is entertaining and he has some really interesting theories.

Dealing with a specific health concern and looking for evidence based support? The Mayo Clinic has created these wonderful guides for dealing with health concerns such as Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia, IBS and more.

Household

I love Sal Suds Liquid Cleanser for general household cleaning. It’s non toxic and super concentrated – a little goes a LONG way. I use it for washing dishes, laundry and cleaning my rugs.
